A young girl stands scared to approach the only derelict house on the street. This prompt from the Pixar internship posting inspired me. In Savannah, Georgia just about every block has a run down house among beautiful Victorian estates. In this illustration the young girl is afraid to approach the local punk teens who’ve overtaken the abandoned house, intimidated by their coolness, despite being invited. I went around and took photos of houses I liked while walking my dog, observing how light effects them. I aimed to create conceptual contrast by having the beat up house be illuminated. At this point in the story the sun is setting on the protagonists safe, idealistic life, as she steps into a more rock and roll teen punk era. The punk teens are a shining light for her in what may be a darker time at home.
